M.P. Shulgin State Road Research Institute State enterprise – DerzhdorNDI SE (DNDI) stars from research road workstation, created in April 15 1926 in department of Ukrainian local transport in Kharkiv.
In 1929 the workstation was reorganized into the research office Glavdortrans USSR and in a year the road and transport research institute was founded.
In those years its research was directed on development of technology of placement improved pavement using oil asphalt and coal tar.
In 1943 the institute restored his work as Ukrdorndi Holovdorupru the RNK of the USSR. Research that made in those years in the institute of using local materials and production wastes in road building, allowed road organization increase the volume and reduce their price.
In 1953 Ukrdorndi together with centre research institute of transport were converted to Ukrainian road research institute Minavtoshosdoru of the USSR, on bases of it in 1965 was created State automotive research institute.
In 1971 on the basis of relevant department of this institute was created State highway research institute, which in 1991 was renamed in State road research institute (DerzhdorNDI).
In Soviet times, the institute took advanced place in the road science. Employees of institute made weighty contribution in acceleration of scientific-technical progress of road branch, increase and deepening legislation and regulations, development and implementation of new technology, materials, structure. Every second SRSR standard of road direction was from this institute or in collaboration.
October 28 1999 the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided that State road research institute was assigned name of public figure and organizer of building roads in Ukraine – Mykola Shulgin.
In 2010 Ukrainian state industrial-technological enterprise “Ukrdortehnolohiya” was reorganized by joining to state enterprise «DerzhdorNDI».
